Competing Needs |
The aging porn star runs and dives into the ocean, gasping for air that she needs as much as cleansing moonlit swims after sex with her ex.
Cold salt water shocks her skin, removing the feel of his hands. Gentle waves buoy her, alone in the dark. She stares at the hollow sky. While she swims, her son sleeps in the beach house, dreaming of toys, unaware of films his parents star in, or what autism therapy costs. A shooting star flashes. She wishes to drown, then feels guilty, and swims back to shore. Drying off, she plans tomorrow's school lunch. |
S. KAY is a queer, Canadian author. Her book RELIANT, an apocalypse in tweets, is out now from tNY.Press, while her novella JOY explores multiple platforms, and will be published January 2016 by Maudlin House.
